BEAUTIFUL

To emulate an ideal version of ourselves is common to everyone of us. Mothers, daughters, men all ages are stuck in a permanent mania of self optimization. BEAUTIFUL tells their storys:

FRAUKE (Martina Gedeck) feels uncomforatble with her body having in mind that she is turning sixty soon, while her husband WOLF (Joachim Król) has just been retired and doesn’t know what to do with himself. Their daugther JULIE (Emilia Schüle) is trying to become a famous model by forcing her body into the predetermined standards of the beauty industry. Well observed by young stundent LEILA (Dilara Aylin Ziem), who totally lacks connection to her own apperance. She is convinced that she would live a much better life having Julies looks. Julies sister-in-law SONJA (Karoline Herfurth) also struggles with her body after two pregnancies and results in a life crisis. Her husband MILAN (Friedrich Mücke) isn’t capable to realize the pressure on her inheriting the role of a mother.  Which is not a big suprise for her best friend VICKY (Nora Tschirner), who doesn’t believe that men and women are able to overcome conservative role models and find themselves on equal terms, at least in the context of love. Her male colleague FRANZ (Maximilian Brückner) on the other hand would like to convince her otherwise.
