Just Something Nice
What to do when your biological clock is ticking louder and louder and there’s no suitable partner in sight? KARLA (Karoline Herfurth) is 39, a radio host on a nightly music show, and single…again. She longs to have a child and finally start a real family, but finding the right partner under time pressure is hard. So she decides to fulfill her desire to have children herself. And suddenly everyone has an opinion: her divorced parents (Ulrike Kriener and Herbert Knaup), her siblings (Nora Tschirner and Milena Tscharntke), her friends, her neighbors, even though they are all stuck in their own complicated lives. Only her best friend SENAY (Jasmin Shakeri) is there to support her with advice, practical help, and the suitable questions. And then fate intervenes when Karla meets OLE (Aaron Altaras), who is “far too young” and doesn’t fit into her plans for the future at all, turning everything upside down.
In her fourth feature film, “Einfach mal was Schönes” (Just Something Nice), Karoline Herfurth, as director, lead actress, and co-writer, explores the question of what family means and how to keep a cool head amid the chaos of contested family and role models. Through many detours, Karla learns to break free from conventions and expectations and dare to pursue her own dreams.
